SHANDONAGH 5-16                        GARRYCASTLE 1-1

Garrycastle were comprehensively beaten in their third game in this year’s under 16 league championship in Shandonagh last Monday evening.

Right from the start Garrycastle were under pressure and the home side piled on score after score. By the mid point of the half Shandonagh had 2-3 on the board as Garrycastle struggled to get out of their own half. In a rare foray into the Shandonagh half, Ross Mulvihill was unlucky to see his effort on goal just drift just wide of the left hand upright. The home side continued to dominate and added further scores as the half wore on. Cathal Mannion saw his effort for a point hit the upright and rebound to safety as the half finished with Garrycastle scoreless and Shandonagh on 4-7.

Garrycastle finally got off the mark in the opening minutes of the second half as good approach play opened up the home defence and Ross Mulvihill slotted home a goal. The home side responded with a succession of points to stretch their lead even further before Cathal Mannion pointed a close range free following a foul on Ronan Mulvihill. This was to be their last score as Shandonagh continued to pile on the scores and finish with 5-16 to 1-1.

This was a very disappointing performance from Garrycastle who seemed to be very flat throughout. While Shandonagh are undoubtedly a strong side, the Garrycastle side put up very little resistance. There were good performances in defence by Owen Mulvihill in goal, Sean Mulvihill, and Caolan Jameson. Mid-field and forwards found it very difficult to impress.

GARRYCASTLE: Owen Mulvihill, Mark Denby, Bill Kelly, Caolan Jameson, Sean Mulvihill, Oisin Langan, Cathal Mannion (0-1, 1f), Conor Mulvihill, Eoin Duignan, Shane McEnery, Jack Brody, Ronan Mulvihill and Ross Mulvihill (1-0).

SUB: Eoin Kenny for Oisin Langan (50 min).
