Under-12 League - Round 1

Garrycastle under 12s played their first league game away to  Tubberclair on Wednesday night.   26 Garrycastle players togged out for two simultaneous matches (one 10-a-side, the other 9-a-side) and played under the Go-Games rules.

Despite the number of substitutes everybody got some much needed playing time with each player making a positive contribution.

The Red team consisting mainly of the older players showed their rustiness in the first half and a number of missed chances saw them well down on the scoreboard at half time.  However, a storming second half saw them get within a point of their hosts and only a series of excellent saves from the Tubberclair keeper stopped Garrycastle taking the lead.  The players tired a little in the last ten minutes and Tubberclair recovered their composure to kick several good scores before the end.

Like their older counterparts the Green team were a little slow to get into their stride but they gradually took a grip of the game to run out strong winners of a keenly contested match, playing some great football in the process.  There was very little to choose between the teams overall with Garrycastle winning by a point on aggregate over the two games.
