GARRYCASTLE 5-17            KILLUCAN 2-6

Garrycastle had a very comprehensive win over Killucan in Kilbeggan on Friday evening. Playing with the aid of a slight breeze Garrycastle made a very positive start and raced into a commanding lead with a succession of points in the opening quarter of the game. Some very slick movements were rewarded with a couple of points each from James Duignan, Eoin Monaghan, Patrick Mulvihill, and efforts from Matthew Guiheen and a Dessie Dolan free to lead by 0-8 to 0-0 after just 17 minutes. A point from Doran Harte increased the lead before Killucan goy off the mark in the 18th minute with a point. Taking heart from that score Killucan added a goal almost immediately to leave it 0-9 to 1-1 by the 20th minute. Garrycastle upped the tempo again and a point from Damian Rushe was added to by Dessie Dolan. A Garrycastle goal from Patrick Mulvihill, who scores when his shot deceived the Killucan goalie and dropped into the net put Garrycastle firmly in control.  Killucan responded with yet another green flag to give them hope as the half time break approached. However, Garrycastel added a second goal from Patrick Mulvihill with the last attack of the half to leave it 2-11 to 2-1 at the break.

Garrycastle continued to dominate possession and rattled off three pints in the opening minutes, from Matthew Guiheen, Patrick Mulvihill and Dessie Dolan. A third Garrycastel goal, scored by Matthew Guiheen, when he broke forward after a good interception by Doron Harte emphasised Garrycastle superiority. Killucan ht back with two points in response, but a point from Patrick Mulvihill and a goal by Dessie Dolan kept the scoreboard operator busy. Killucan had a point that was replied to by points from Gary McCallon and Dessie Dolan.  A fifth Garrycastle goal came in the 57th minute when Neil Rattigan had a shot come cross that was bundled into the net by a Killucan defender. Killucan did have the last score, a point from a free in the last play of the game.

This was a very comprehensive win for the green and red, who played particularly well in the opening 20 minutes. It was good team performance but must be judged against the limited opposition put up by Killucan. There were particularly good performances from Tom McHugh, Doron Harte, Gary Dolan, Damian Rush, Matthew Guiheen, Eoin Monaghan, Patrick Mulvihill and Dessie Dolan.
