Garrycastle 1-8  Rosemount 5-9

Garrycastle suffered a heavy defeat to Rosemount in the Division 2 final on Sunday October 13th in Cusack Park, Mullingar. The strength of the opposition reflected their superior League status having recently secured the Division 1 League title. The ability that Rosemount had to create and clinically execute their goal chances compared to Garrycastle was one of the deciding factors. It was a game that Garrycastle always struggled to contain or match the opposition and for whatever reason be it nerves or inexperience of Cusack Park did not do themselves justice on the day. That been said if some of the goal chances that Garrycastle had were converted then they may have stayed in touch and made more of a game of it. The team however played to the final whistle and tried their best to reduce the gap in the score line and they can be proud that they never gave up.

In the first half, Cian Hayden was first off the mark for Garrycastle after Rosemount had built up a 2 point lead. Rosemount followed this with a point before the first of their goals. When Kenny Dolan pointed from a free, Rosemount then hit Garrycastle with another major. Both teams then traded points to leave the half time score 2-5 to 0-3 in favour of the opposition. Michael Monaghan was first on the score board in the second half with a free for the Green and Red. Then Rosemount added to their goal tally to put 10 points between the sides. Although Garrycastle fought hard during this spell they could not make any progress on the score board and by the time Conor Duignan brought Garrycastle to 0-5, Rosemount had 4-7 on the board. Then Garrycastle had their best period of the match and Emmet Brennan finally found the net followed by a point from Kenny Dolan. There was then the most bizarre sequence of goal attempts from Garrycastle which somehow failed to find the target. Rosemount however could still break through the Garrycastle defence and they found the net for a fifth time. Further points by Darragh McCormack and Michael Monaghan completed Garrycastle's account on the day.

So a disappointing result for a team who have developed well and produced some great performances during the year. They can still hold their heads high while acknowledging that they met a team who were more confident, determined and hungrier for success on the day.
