Garrycastle 1-15  Shandonagh 3-7


Garrycastle had a great victory over Shandonagh in the knockout stage of the Minor League Championship in Garrycastle on Friday, September 6th.  Shandonagh were first off the mark with a point but Garrycastle settled well and after responding with two early points, Kenny Dolan raised the green flag. Garrycastle proceeded to dominate the first half with a number of points from play and from frees which were shared by Cathal Mannion and Kenny Dolan.  Garrycastle were awarded a penalty near the end of the first half when Mark Curley was taken down. Eric Kearney stepped up to take the kick which was saved by the Shandonagh keeper. Kenny Dolan ended the first half with another free to leave the half time score Garrycastle 1-8 Shandonagh 0-3. 

Shandonagh were first on the scoreboard in the second half but Garrycastle responded with two more points,the second from Eric Kearney was a fine effort from around the forty. Shandonagh then took over and and rocked Garrycastle with two goals in quick succession to put them right back in contention and within 3 points of the home team. Garrycastle held their nerve and produced four points without reply of which Evan Dalton's effort was particularly impressive. A further point from Shandonagh was followed by a point from Terry Rushe to leave a five point lead to the home team. Shandonagh were not giving up and found the net with about 2 minutes left in the game but Garrycastle held firm for a well deserved win and a place in the Division 2 Semi-final.

Overall it was a very good performance by the home team with all players and subs working hard for the victory.
