Garrycastle 4-8  Caulry 4-6

Garrycastle Minors defeated Caulry in their second League game on Tuesday evening last, (March 5th) in damp conditions in Garrycastle. This was a rescheduled Round 1 game. Garrycastle took an early lead and were 3 points up before Caulry registered their first score. Michael Monaghan added another point before Kenny Dolan found the back of the net when he was quick to react to a rebound from the Caulry defence. Eric Kearney added to Garrycastle's goal tally with his first of 3 goals following a Mark Duffy pass to put the home team into a 2-5 to 0-2 lead. Caulry then replied with a goal followed by 3 more points to make the score at half time, 2-5 to 1-4 in favour of the home team.
Caulry were first off the mark in the second half to reduce the gap to 3 points. Garrycastle responded well and took charge with another Kearney goal which he blasted to the net followed by a point from Michael Monaghan. Caulry mounted a series of attacks and following a number of excellent saves by Eoin Slevin they hit back with two goals in quick succession to reduce Garrycastle's lead to 2 points. 2 more frees by Michael Monaghan who was now finding his accuracy after a number of missed frees earlier gave the home team some breathing space and a fourth goal by Eric Kearney from a fine Liam Leahy pass consolidated the lead. Caulry were not giving up and they rocked the home team with their fourth goal of the night. This turned out to be the last score of the game.
Overall a mixed performance by Garrycastle with some fine scores but the manner in which the four goals were conceded shows the need for improvement.
Next up is Kilbeggan away on Saturday at 4.30.
