GARRYCASTLE 6-14            CAULRY 1-6

Garrycastle’s Junior A side secured yet another brace of points in a one sided encounter in Garrycastle last Friday evening.

Garrycastle were out of the blocks in flying style and has three points on the scoreboard within the opening two minutes, when Justin McAter, Eoin Monaghan and Sean Brennan hit over points. The game’s first goal arrived in the 5th minute when Sean Brennan broke forward from midfield to crash the ball to the Caulry net after good approach play from the home side. Caulry finally began to get into the game and had a point in the 6th minute. The visitors registered their second point soon after. A second Garrycastle goal, this scored by Eoin Monaghan, extended their lead and the same player soon added a point. The sides exchanged points, with the Garrycastle score coming from Alan Daly and the Caulry effort from a free. Caulry registered another point in the 26rth minute to narrow the margin. However, Garrycastle had a purple period from there to the break with two goals, both scored by Eoin Monaghan, in a two minute spell just before half time. The score at the break was 4-5 to 0-4 in Garrycastle’s favour.

A succession of scores on the resumption by Garrycastle extended their lead further. The scorers were Alan Daly with a goal and a point; Eoin Monaghan with his third goal of the game; Peadar Mulvihill and Conor Harrington with points. Caulry had a goal of their own in the 42nd minute and followed this up with a point in their best period of the game. Substitute Colman Gantley added a point for Garrycastle with Caulry replying with a point from a free. In the final few minutes Garrycastle added points from Eoin Monaghan, Justin McAteer, Emmet Keena, Anthony Larkin and Peadar Mulvihill to run out very convincing winners.

While this was a convincing win for Garrycastle, they know that stiffer tests lie ahead if they are to progress to the knock-out stages. To score 6-14, and all of them to come fro open play, is impressive. It was an excellent team performance but particular mention must be made of the showing by Gary Mullery, Jack Donoghue, Alan Fox, Sean Brennan, Justin McAteer, Alan Daly and Eoin Monaghan.

GARRYCASTLE: Shane O’Connell, Gary Mullery, Conor Harrington (0-1), Jack Donoghue, Anthony Larkin (0-1), Alan Fox, Robbie Fox (1-0), Sean Brennan (1-1), Justin McAteer (0-2), Peadar Mulvihill (0-2), Noel Galvin (C), Michael Monaghan, Paul Mulvihill, Alan Daly (1-2) and Eoin Monaghan (3-3).
