Garrycastle Junior B side were comprehensively beaten in this re-arranged game last Friday evening in Moate. Playing without a significant of regulars, Garrycastle struggled to make any impact and can have no complaint about their first defeat in the league this year.

The home side had a point after 4 minutes of play and increased this soon after with another point. Michael Monaghan got Garycastle off the mark with a well taken pint in the 5th minute. However, Moate who were enjoying plenty of possession hit over three unanswered points in the following period to increase their lead further. Alan Daly had a point for Garrycastlewhich was replied to by Maote. Peadar Mulvihill had another point for the visitors but Moate responded with yet another point. A point from Alan Daly was quickly augment to with a goal by the same player as his powerful shot was initially parried by the Moate goalie but Alan followed up to punch the ball to the net and to level the scoreline by the 16th minute. Moate responded to this setback with a goal of their own in the 22nd minute but Garrycastle had a point from Paul Donovan in reply.  Moate hit over three more points to lead by 1-12 to 1-5 at half time.

A pointed free for the home side stretched their lead on the resumption and was quickly followed up with yet another point from play. Garrycastle’s cause was helped by a second goal from Alan Daly, who shot was saved but he regained possession and blasted the ball to the net in the 37th minute. Moate responded in style and had a second goal of their own in the 41st minute. They continued to enjoy the major share of the possession and hit over four more points to increase their lead even further. Stephen McGuire had a point for Garrycastle and a goal opportunity was then saved well by the Moate goalie. The sides exchanged points, the Garrycastle effort coming from Paul Gunning in the 56th minute. Moate continued to dominate and had three more points, all  from open play, to leave it 2-22 to 2-7 on the final whistle.

Garrycastle will be disappointed to lose this tie but still have a game against Coralstown/Kinnegad which will decide the outcome of the division. It is hoped that more players will be available and some injuries will have cleared up before then.

There were good performances from Padraig Cosgrove in goal, Gary Mulery and Ronan Donoghue in defence. Damien Rushe, Michael Monaghan and Alan Daly were most prominent in attack for garrycastle.
