The sides exchanges a couple of points each, with the Garrycastle scores coming from Noel Galvin and Paul Mulvihill. Both sides were reduced to 14, with Johnny McGuire of Garrycastle and Eddie Alford of St Marys receiving a second yellow card towards the start of the second period. A burst of scores from Garrycastle increased their lead when Robbie Shine (who had 2 points) and Paul Mulvihill fired over points. As was the pattern in this game, St Marys responded with a brace of points themselves to leave the gap at 4 points as the game entered the final 10 minutes. The home side got a big boost when the stole in for a goal to narrow the margin to the minimum a minute later. However, Garrycastle responded well to this set-back and hit over further points from Paul Mulvihill and Robbie Shine in the closing stages and they held the St Marys attack scoreless for the remaining minutes.
