GARRYCASTLE 2 - 10          BUNBROSNA 2 - 7

Garrycastle Junior B side entertained Bunbrosna in the fourth round of the league in Garrycastle last Friday night under lights.

The visitors had the first score in the very first minute when they manufactured a point. It took Garrycastle some time to settle but they had a goal in the 7th minute when Paul Mulvihill finished off some good approach play to fire to the Bunbrosna net. Garrycastle were playing some good football as the game progressed and a pointed free from Johnny McGuire was quickly followed by a second goal, this time from Emmet Keena. Johnny McGuire had a point from play and this was added to by a point from Peadar Mulvihill. Bunbrosna responded with a point from a free bur Garrycastle finished the half strongly and a point from Johnny McGuire left the home side 2-4 to 0-2 ahead at the break.

Bunbrosna started brightly in the second period and pointed in the second minute. Noel Galvin responded with a good point for Garrycastle. The visitors got a boost when they worked the ball into the Garrycastle goal-mouth and after some desperate defending a penalty was awarded. The visitors took full advantage to fire a goal past Sean Brennan. However, points from Emmet Keena and a free from Alex Gardiner steadied the Garrycastle play. Bunbrosna began to get more possession and came back strongly into the game. Two points fro the visitors put them right back in it with just over 15 minutes remaining and only 6 points down. Bunbrosna added two further points from play. Noel Galvin responded with a good point and Johnny McGuire pointed a free from close range after a late tackle on Neil Rattigan was spotted by the referee. A second goal for the visitors put them right back in contention as the game entered the final 5 minutes of normal time. A point from Paul Mulvihill put Garrycastle four points up but Bunbrosna never gave up and pressed forward looking for scores. They could not break through for a goal and had to settle for a pointed free in injury time. The final score 2-10 to 2-7 in Garrycastle’s favour.

While Garrycastle were deserving winners, they will regret that they made such hard work of it. Many good point opportunities were squandered by over elaboration. There were good performances by Anthony Duignan, David Broughan and Colman Gantley in defence. Johnny McGuire and Neill Rattigan gave Garrycastle the edge at midfield but faded somewhat in the middle third of the game. Noel Galvin, Paul Mulvihill and Emmet Keena took the plaudits in attack. It was great to see Tom McHugh, coming back from a long term injury, make his first competitive appearance in almost a year.

GARRYCASTLE: Sean Brennan, Sean Carey, Anthony Duignan, David Broughan, Colman Gantley, Anthony Larkin, Peadar Mulvihill (0-1), Johnny McGuire (0-4, 2f), Neill Rattigan, Brian Carty, Noel Galvin (0-2), Alex Gardiner (0-1, 1f), Enda Keena, Emmet Keena (1-1) and Paul Mulvihill (1-1).
