Garrycastle 0-13; Castletown-Finea-Coole-Whitehall 0-13

Garrycastle's second team made the long journey to play the team with the longest name on Saturday last, and finished off their league campaign by sharing the points with the home team. This point sees Garrycastle finish with a respectable 10 points in the top half of the table, but for the home team the point was priceless, as it ensured that they retain their Division 2 status.

Garrycastle had difficulties in rounding up a team for a variety of reasons and great credit is due to all who gave up their Saturday to help out their club. Special praise is due to those players who had taken part in the extra time Junior B final win the previous night. The sides were evenly matched in the first half and went in level at six points each. Garrycastle had the better of the third quarter and edged into a two point lead, with Eoin Monaghan in sparkling form. The home team staged a determined rally to draw level with five minutes remaining. Eoin Monaghan kicked another marvellous point which looked like being the winning score but deep into added time the CFCW free-taker showed great composure to kick the equalising point from 30 metres to preserve his club's Division 2 status.

This game was played in a good spirit throughout and referee Ken Gunning had no need to flash any cards. Garrycastle's defence was solid with great contributions from goalkeeper Colman Gantley, Jack Donohue and Frank Farrell, while further afield James Duignan, Matthew Guiheen and the outstanding Eoin Monaghan were most impressive. However, all 15 players are to be commended for a committed and disciplined performance.

GARRYCASTLE: Colman Gantley, Frank Doolan, Jack Donohue (0-1), Ben Kennedy, Frank Farrell, Anthony Larkin, Neill Rattigan, James Duignan, Sean Brennan (0-1), Peadar Mulvihill, Eoin Monaghan (0-9, 2 frees), Enda Keena (0-2), Padraig Cosgrove, Matthew Guiheen, Aidan Ryan.
