GARRYCASTLE   4-12       MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS           2-6

Garrycastle collected a second brace of league points with a comprehensive win over the home team in this game played in Mullingar CBS grounds last Saturday evening. Playing with a strong wind Garrycastle started well with two goals from James Dolan and Gary Dolan, with Paddy Mulvihill and Dessie Dolan playing key roles in both goals. Indeed, these two players were central to all of Garrycastle’s best attacks, and caused continuous problems for the Shamrocks’ defence. Further goals from midfielders Ciaran O’Neill and Matthew Guiheen helped Garrycastle to a commanding 4-6 to 0-3 lead at half time.

Shamrocks were given an early boost in the second half when Sean Daly converted a penalty and when they notched a second goal after 15 minutes they briefly threatened Garrycastle’s big lead. However, good points from play by Seanie O’Donoghue and Paddy Mulvihill kept Garrycastle in control, and the result was never really in doubt. A nasty foul on Dessie Dolan left referee Sean Carroll with no option but to dismiss a Shamrocks defender with five minutes remaining and in the final minute a second Shamrocks defender joined his colleague after two yellow cards. Garrycastle kept their composure and ran out convincing winners by a 12 point margin.
