A brave display by this young Garrycastle team wasn’t enough to prevent Tubberclair from amassing a winning total sufficient to secure a quarter final place in Ballymore last Saturday. Garrycastle started well and matched their opponents throughout the first quarter. A well-taken goal by Padraig Cosgrove following a quickly –taken free by Alan Daly gave Garrycastle the lead but a two goal burst after 20 minutes swung the game in Tubberclair’s favour. Garrycastle continued to battle all through the second half and were rewarded with an Alan Daly goal after a good delivery by Robbie Fox. Another goal from Tubberclair from a penalty kept them in control and their lead was never seriously threatened in the second half.

GARRYCASTLE: Shane O’Connell, Gary Mullery, John Murphy, Jack Donohue, Conor Harrington, Robbie Fox, Sean Carey, Noel Galvin, Conor Molloy, Brian Carty, Padraig Cosgrove (1-0), Alex Gardiner (0-2, frees), Matthew Guiheen (0-1), Paul Mulvihill (0-1).

SUBS: Paul Gunning for Galvin; Michael Monaghan for Gardiner; Donovan Hermbusche for Molloy; Pascal Dillon for Carty.

PS: Following the final round of games, Garrycastle have finished bottom of Group 1 and will play Shandonagh in a relegation match. The dates, time and venues TBC.
