Garrycastle intermediate side suffered another defeat in their third game in the championship in waterlogged Tang last Monday evening.

Garrycastle made a good start and had a point from midfielder, Matthew Guiheen, in the 2nd minute. A point from Noel Galvin doubled their lead in the 6th minute. Ballynacargy hit back strongly with a point and a goal by the 9th minute to take the lead. Two more points pushed them into a 4 point lead before Garrycastle had another point from a free by Alex Gardiner. At this stage Ballynacargy had the majority of possession and fired over two more points. A good Garrycastle build-up allowed Alan Daly to gain possession near the end line and he cut along the line and fired a shot goal-ward. However, it hit the post and rebounded to safety. A couple of more points from close range frees stretched the Ballynacargy advantage and they added another point as the first half came to a close. The score was 1-8 to 0-3 in Ballynacargy’s favour at the break.

It was Ballynacargy who made the better start to the second period and two quick fire points increased their lead. A point in reply from a Noel Galvin free gave Garrycastle some hope. The teams exchanged points, wit the Garrycastle effort coming from Alan Daly, whose shot flew just over the bar rather than into the net as he had intended. Another Ballynacargy point was replied to by a free from Noel Galvin. Alas this was Garrycastle’s last score of the game and two more Ballynacargy were registered before the full time whistle. The final score 1-14 to 0-6.

This was a disappointing performance from Garrycastle. They created very few opportunities in attack and the defence was under constant pressure. There were good displays from Conor Harrington, and Robbie Fox in defence. In attack, there was little threat other than from Alan Daly.
