GARRYCASTLE   2-6          BALLYMORE       1-7

This hard-earned win over the home team in Ballymore last Sunday morning effectively assures Garrycastle of the Division 3 title, and promotion to Division 2 for next season. Garrycastle have won all eight games played to date and are level on 16 points with Ballynacargy, who have completed their programme of games. Garrycastle have one game left to play – away to Multyfarnham – but because they won the head-to-head with Ballynacargy they will finish on top regardless of the result against Multyfarnham. This is a notable achievement for Aidan Dunning’s team who have now gone from Division 4 to Division 2 in two years.

Both sides shown plenty of rustiness in the first half but Garrycastle were sharper in front of goal. Conor Cosgrove again showed his accuracy from play and frees while Eoin Monaghan’s well-taken goal gave his team a lead of 1-5 to 0-1 at half time. When Monaghan notched his second goal early in the second half Garrycastle seemed to think the game was over, but the home team took control in the final quarter. When they scored a goal with eight minutes left the gap was down to three points. A neat Conor Cosgrove point eased the tension and two points from Ballymore in the closing minutes weren’t enough to deny Garrycastle.

GARRYCASTLE: Shane O’Connell, Gary Mullery, Sean Brennan, John O’Shaughnessy, Anthony Larkin, Ciaran O’Neill, Robbie Fox, Aidan Browne, Matthew Guiheen, Neill Rattigan, Conor Cosgrove (0-5, 3 frees), Peadar Mulvihill, Noel Galvin (captain), James Duignan, Eoin Monaghan (2-1).

Sub: Enda Keena.
