Under 10

The under-9 / under-10 teams began their league campaign for 2016 with the short trip to near neighbours Athlone on Tuesday evening. The under-9 team started strongly, and managed to get a few early scores on the board to settle themselves. Using a strong display in midfield as a springboard, they pushed forward continually, to take a well-deserved lead into the half-time break. In the second half, they continued to push hard and took some nice scores, and fought off a determined Athlone fightback to take the win on the evening.

Not to be outdone by their younger team mates, the Under-10 team also started brightly, and opened with a well taken score. This game was a much closer affair, with Athlone coming strongly into the game, and both teams traded scores to leave the home team in front at the break. A few positional switches at half-time paid dividends, with Garrycastle pushing on strongly in the second half, and even though the home team battled hard, the Garrycastle team ran out deserving winners on the evening.

These were two great team performances to start the year.
