There was a good attendance at the club’s AGM  on Friday night last.  The officer board was re-elected unopposed. Secretary Harry Mooney gave a detailed account of all underage and adult activities. The seniors got to the final of the league, the minors and under 16s both won their respective leagues. The under 12s won the Plate final of the Jim McHugh tournament.  The under 10s had a fantastic year winning four tournaments.  On the down side he was disappointed at the performance of the seniors in the championship and the failure to compete at under 21. The secretary also referred to the big social event of the year – “Tears in your Eyes” and thanked all who were involved in performing and organising. He thanked all the businesses who sponsored the club and asked members to support those businesses.  He welcomed Garrycastle’s return to the County Scor competition. Membership in 2017 was up over the previous year, driven primarily by more family memberships in the club.

Treasurer, John Ruane outlined the club finances and thanked everyone who helped at fundraising. The lotto and  “Tears in your Eyes”   were big contributors to the finances during the year along with a number of smaller events. The chairman, Michael Mannion, in his address outlined the developments in the club in the last year as well as well as thanking everyone who helped with club activities in any way. He commented that every job done by different people, no matter how small, contributed to the smooth running of the club. A motion was passed confirming a one club approach in Garrycastle GAA in future which involves the men’s and the ladies’ clubs operating from the same club structure. Garrycastle GAA club will look after the activities of all the mens/boys and ladies/girls teams. A second motion adopted  the player pathway, published in 2017 which is designed to ensure that current and future coaching in the club  will be carried out to the highest level. A third motion was also passed that a special Juvenile Development Group would be set up to take responsibility for the development of Nursery, Under 8 and Under 10 groups of players. This group would report to and be subject to the authority of the club's Minor Board and would liaise closely with the Minor Board in all matters.
