Adult Football

posted 23 Apr 2017, 15:39 by Matthew Ryan

Sunday was a busy day for our players with both our division 1 and 3 teams fixed to play despite requests and appeals by club officers  not to fix two of our adult teams on the same day. The outcome of the decisions by the county fixtures committee is that 7 or 8 players had to play 2 games on the same day – so much for the GAA’s commitment to player burnout.  The club’s problems were compounded by injuries to Des and James Dolan and Justin Barrett who were unable take part in the division 1 game and to Mark McCallon during that game who had to retire early.  Fielding three teams helps provide football for a large number of players in the club but on a given day it stretches the club’s resources to the limit and a little cooperation from the fixtures committee would help. Interestingly Garrycastle were the only club fixed for two important league games on the one day.
