Senior Championship Final 2019

The senior team take on St Lomans on Sunday next in Cusack Park at 3.30pm. It’s great to see club flags and bunting on houses in the last week bringing a lot of colour to the area and showing support for the team. If you haven’t got your flags yet they can be obtained in Spar, Garrycastle; Jimmy’s Superstore, Dublin Road or in Supervalu, Ballymahon Road. We hope that a big Garrycastle crowd with their flags will travel to Mullingar next Sunday to get behind the team.

Underage notes - 6 October 2019

The under 14s competed in the division 2 semi final on Sunday last and had a very difficult time against a strong Tubberclair side, losing heavily in the end. It was a game in which Garrycastle were always under pressure to stay in touch but the sending off of a player in the first half turned the game very much in Tubberclair’s favour. The Garrycastle lads battled bravely but  were unable to make any inroads against a more balanced and cohesive Tubberclair team.

On Sunday, 16 of our u10s travelled to the Annual Castledaly tournament. There was a strong performance from our young men, reaching the final of the Shield. Unfortunately they were beaten on the day by a strong Castledaly team. All told it was a great season by our u9s and u10s. A special thanks to all these young men for their commitment all year, to their parents for their efforts to get to training and matches and to our coaches for providing their knowledge and encouragement throughout the year. Looking forward to the new season already

Last week ended with our U16 girls being crowned Division B Champions when they overcame St Joseph’s by the minimum in the closing minutes of the game. Next weekend is yet another busy one in the club with our u14s in the Division B Final against Loughnavalley and our senior girls in the Division 1 League Final where they face Milltown. Times and venues yet to be confirmed for both games. Best of luck to both teams in their finals. Finally best of luck to the senior lads when they take on St Lomans in the final on Sunday in Cusack Park.

County Final

The excitement is building up for the county final on Sunday October 13th at 3.30pm and flags are appearing on houses. People have been asking where flags can be bought. Jimmys Superstone on the Dublin Road and Croughans Supervalu on the Ballymahon Road have flags in stock.

The club extends deepest sympathy to the John Murray, Garrycastle, and Marion Keena, Bliary, on the death of their sister Sally Mulhern in Galway recently.

There has been plenty of action over the weekend.

On Saturday the under 9s and 10s went out to Clan na Gael and took part in their blitzes. While the under 10s found the going difficult the under 9s performed brilliantly to reach the final losing out to a Dublin team. By all accounts it was a great day’s football, well done all and thanks to Clan na Gael for inviting us.

Then on Sunday the last round of the street leagues were held. While the weather conditions were tough it was great to see around 60 players playing matches and giving it their all.
